No, I didn’t make this choice as the result of a mental breakdown.
I’ve always been a fan of changing up my hair. I started dyeing it around the age of 13, starting with some blonde highlights. Then I hit my emo phase and went for purple and green ombre.
When that faded, I wore bleached blonde ends for several months. I kept growing my hair out and dyed it burgundy red for almost 2 years. When I decided I didn’t want the red anymore, it was a PAIN to get out. I dyed my hair black to stifle the red. Slowly but surely, my hair returned to its natural deep brown over time.
Not to mention, in between the red and black, I went from hair down to my hips, to cutting it a couple of inches above my shoulders (and maybe a few rounds of bangs).
The point I’m trying to make here is that I’ve always had fun playing with my hair, and I’ve always enjoyed changing it.
Recently I’ve had a dry spell with hair variations. My hair has stayed the same shoulder- length lob for 2 years. I knew I wanted change, but I had no idea what to do to it. A case of hair-block, if you will.
I found myself not styling it anymore for the sake of time and laziness. It never really looked good. I always joked about shaving all my hair off to my friends, but then I realized I could actually do it.
I started looking into pros and cons of the shaved style online, and was surprised at how many people describe it as the best decision of their lives.
I decided spontaneously one night to just go for it. My only fear was judgement from other people. I was not worried about missing my hair or any sort of personal fear. I figured since I shouldn’t worry about what others think in the first place, that I should take the leap.
I’ve only been shaved for 2 days now, but I’ve received nothing but positive feedback. I loved the cut on me instantly and having all of that thick hair off of my head feels pretty amazing.
Showering is the best thing in the world, and I feel like my makeup and features stand out and shine so much more.
I’ll keep updating here on how I feel about the cut the longer I have it, but I’m so happy that I made this decision, and I think that I will continue to be happy with this style for a long time.
